Job Position: Financial Controller (Construction Company)

Overview: Our rapidly growing concrete repair construction company has been in service for over 29 years and is seeking an experienced full-time Financial Controller with a construction industry background. The Financial Controller is expected to undertake all aspects of financial management, including day-to-day accounting and payroll management, financial reporting, job cost reporting, budgets, forecast preparation, as well as development and implementation of internal financial control policies and procedures. The ideal candidate has a construction background in finance, excellent communication and multitasking skills, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic. Specific Responsibilities:
· Manage all accounting operations including A/R, A/P, Job Cost, Inventory and Accrual Accounting, Payroll Review and Revenue Recognition calculations.
· Supervise staff of three (Staff Accountant, A/P Accountant and Payroll Clerk) within their daily accounting activities.
· Mentor direct reports to grow in their roles & responsibilities as the company continues to scale up.
· Manage the company’s various credit card transactions with the ability to integrate into the accounting software during the month-end close process.
· Manage the company’s accounts receivable, aging and cash flow with the ability to forecast receipts for a period of no less than 13 weeks in advance.
· Manage the company’s capital assets, leases, insurance policies, health benefits and 401k plans.
· Produce and manage the company’s Work-In-Progress (WIP) and Work-Off Projection (WOP) worksheets with their associated analysis on a monthly basis.
· Ability to communicate with project managers, supervisors and foreman on a daily basis to accomplish project related accounting tasks.
· Manage the company’s project purchase order process, lien waivers and lien rights as required.
· Provide project revenue, cost and gross/earned profit analysis when required.
· Manage and direct the month-end and year-end close processes with the required accrual entries, transaction accuracy and timeliness for a tax-based company.
· Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements including transaction variance analysis for all pertinent GL accounts including EBITDA calculations.
· Prepare and present end-of-month financial briefs and analysis to the executive staff.
· Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
· Facilitate budgets with the executive team including SG&A accounts with quarterly reforecasts when necessary.
General Responsibilities:
· Monitor, review and verify accounting records and daily transactions ensuring accuracy, timeliness and consistency.
· Ensure compliance with internal policies, agency rules and regulations, and tax-based accounting principles.
· Ability to communicate and serve as the company’s financial representative to all external parties and associated financial requests as required.
Skills:
· Must have ability to communicate with, manage and evaluate direct reports on a daily basis including their formal annual performance reviews.
· Excellent and professional verbal and written communication.
· Must possess Microsoft Office skills with particular expertise with Excel and Word applications.
· Must possess sound judgement and decision-making skills.
· Time management and attention-to-detail are a must.
· Ability to learn new software easily, particularly accounting software (Foundation for Construction).
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
· Education – Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field.
· Experience – Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in Construction Industry Accountancy is necessary!
· Ability to prioritize, multitask and work well with others.
